Artistic heritage

The town has hosted many notable people who have contributed to the wealth of culture and art that have made Alassio so famous.

There are many works of art which have been bequeathed to the town by great artists who loved the intense colours of the landscape here. From Richard West, whose works are on display in the gallery that bears his name, to Carlo Levi who chose our town for his summer residence between 1929 and 1975. His paintings are exhibited in the small gallery housed in the 17th century Palazzo Morteo, in Budello.

You can see his paintings hanging inside, including his famous portrait of his friend Italo Calvino, notable for its textured and captivating brushstrokes, as well as his letters, notes, sketches, and the famous manuscript of “Quaderno a Cancelli” which was donated to the town by Antonio and Silvia Ricci.
So if you love art, we strongly recommend a visit to one of our art galleries!
