The tower, the guardian of the sea

The bastions along the coast of Liguria were part of an ancient system of lookout towers.

The Coscia tower is Alassio’s bastion and was built in the 16th century by the Republic of Genoa.

It is very well preserved and the mighty stone and brick circular structure is still an imposing sight. It kept the town safe against pirates and is one of Alassio’s symbols.

The Coscia Tower was built in the 16th century to defend our town against invaders coming from the sea. One of only a few such towers still standing, it seems to still be protecting us.
